FAQ’s

Question: What is the length of term for the Agreement and is it renewable?

Answer: The Franchise Agreement is a five year term and is automatically renewable to the terms of the current Franchise Agreement.

Question: Can I be certain of being able to have my business registered under the Regulatory Body?

Answer: The application to register is with the Government Care Regulator for your region and is a process taking around 14 weeks, depending upon the authorities. This process includes an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Scheme) check and requires written references. The Franchisee personally needs to be registered as well as their Care Manager. Whilst the Franchisor will provide all the necessary advice and guidance, the final registration is at the sole discretion of the Regulator.

Question: Is there specific legislation that covers the provision of care?

Answer: Yes - and differs depending on your region within the UK. Care legislation typically includes an Act, 'Regulations' and 'Minimum Standards' all of which need to be complied with at all times. There are dozens of policies, procedures and guidelines which are aligned to the legislation requirements. Hallows Care Franchisees have access to our comprehensive Resource Library which provides detailed guidance on how to operate in compliance with all legislation.

Question: Must I operate my business from premises?

Answer: Yes, this is not a home based business opportunity. However, some homes may have suitable office premises within them/on the property – we will be happy to discuss the suitability at a discovery day. All Hallows Care franchisees run from an office within their allocated territory. The premises must also be approved by the Franchisor.

Question: Do I have exclusive territory rights?

Answer: Yes. The legal agreement offers a defined territory.

Question: How are care quality standards monitored and controlled?

Answer: Firstly, the Franchisee is required to undertake our initial training programme. There you will learn all about our comprehensive quality control system. Hallows Care, as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting Franchisees and to maintaining the highest quality standards, will regularly monitor and inspect Franchisees for adherence to the Hallows Care quality systems and procedures. You will be required to maintain registration and accreditation of SQMAS (Supplier Quality Management Audit Scheme).

Question: What are the ongoing fees charged by the Franchisor?

Answer: There is no advertising and promotional levy charged. The Management Services Fee is 5% of total turnover plus VAT.

Question: From signing the Franchise Agreement, how long is it until I can start earning from my business?

Answer: The process of registration will normally take around 14 weeks, depending on the Regulator. During this time there is a lot of planning and preparation you will need to undertake with our assistance. Our aim is for the Franchisee to start trading as soon after obtaining registration as possible.

Question: What type of support will I receive?

Answer: You will be supported by a dedicated and experienced team of people at the Franchise Support Centre, which includes, but is not limited to, marketing, finance, business development and general support.

Question: Can I purchase extra territories?

Answer: Extra territories may be awarded at an agreed time, subject to discussion with the Franchisor.

Question: Funding – what options do I have?

Answer: Hallows Care can put you into contact with the main banks that specialise in franchising, but we cannot advise on what options they have available. These would need to be discussed with the bank you choose to work with. However, we have contacts with a selection of the main high street banks, who have an understanding of the Hallows Care Franchise which will assist you during initial discussions.

Question: How important is it to work with my local authority?

Answer: Whilst the local authority can be a good source of referral, Hallows Care will assist you in working with other sectors within the market to help generate different revenue streams into your new business. Help and guidance in dealing with your local authority is given on an ongoing basis and will hopefully assist you in developing a strong local reputation.

Question: When can I expect to draw remuneration from the business?

Answer: It depends on how quickly you are able to develop the business, but realistically you should not expect to take personal drawings during the first 12 months of trading, unless it is provided for in the initial working capital provision.

Question: Do I need a background in the care sector?

Answer: A background in the care sector is not required as full training will be provided.

Question: What is the working capital required to start the business?

Answer: Typically, working capital of around £76,000 is required to start the business.

Question: Why do I need a Care Manager?

Answer: Having a Care Manager is a regulatory requirement when operating a domiciliary care business.
